The officers have been suspended while police enquiries continue.

Two Police Service of Northern Ireland officers have been suspended following their arrest by the anti-corruption unit on Thursday.

The officers were questioned and have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The two officers were arrested in the Greater Belfast area and are due to be questioned again later.

Police have previously said the arrests relate to alleged misconduct in public office.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said: "Two police officers arrested in the Greater Belfast area on Thursday, June 23rd by the police service's anti-corruption unit have been released on bail to return for further questioning later.

"Police enquiries continue."

The Police Service of Northern Ireland's anti-corruption branch is profiled on the police service's website.

It says the unit's role "must prevent and detect wrongdoing and corruption by members of the organisation whilst "off duty"."

The Police Service of Northern Ireland also says the unit supports its commitment "to maintaining the highest levels of honesty and integrity and preventing dishonest, unethical and unprofessional behaviour".
